It’s the morning after FrankenCon. I have thoughts on this year’s event, and I’ll share them. This is going to be a short newsletter. I feel like I missed a newsletter last week. I try to post them twice monthly. I think the next one will have a piece of flash fiction or something fun like that.
Some tweaker cut off and stole the catalytic converter from my truck while I was at AuthorCon III in Virginia last April. When I came home and started my truck, the engine was really loud. I thought maybe there was a hole that rusted through the exhaust pipe. I finally got it checked last week. Nope. Some greasy fucking low life tweaker stole the goddamned thing while I was out of town. Yeah, you can guarantee this whole experience is going into a book. In fact, I already have the title: Eat Shit and Die!
Welcome to the newsletter!
What’s New
Very soon here I will be releasing my first short story collection Infected Voices. This collects the ten stories from my Infected Voices series on Godless.com, as well as eleven reprints from zines and anthologies, along with author notes on for each story. I say this is my first short story collection even though Shallow Graves is a short story collection. That one collected my collaborations with Jack Bantry as well as a few of our solo stories. Infected Voices is all me, baby!
Cover art by Chad Lutzke. I will have more info on this collection when it drops. I am awaiting the proof copies before launching.
Christine Morgan reviewed Mojave Mud Caves. She certainly got what I was going after with the book, but I don’t think it’s her favorite of my books she’s reviewed. Christine is such a damn good writer that I always feel kind of intimidated with her reviewing my books, and always appreciative.
FrankenCon
So I tabled at Bride of FrankenCon with my buddy Chuck Buda. We had a great time. I got to see John Wayne Comunale and hang with him for a bit after the show yesterday. Got to meet Chisto Healy, fellow Evil Cookie author, and so many other great people who stopped by the table.
I did this event last year, which was the inaugural year. I did much better last year. I think attendance was down. The big difference was that Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl were guests of honor last year, and they were a total draw. They were supposed to be there this year, but had to cancel. That could be one reason attendance was down. Also, they extended the convention to two large rooms instead of one. I really don’t know what difference that made, but I know I prefer when there’s only one vendor room. I think it helps with foot traffic going by the tables.
All and all, I had a great time. The event is fifteen minutes from my house, so despite lower numbers I would certainly do it again next year. I suck at remembering to take pics, but here are a few (I took the top three and grabbed the other two from John Wayne and Chisto).

Recent Reads From Hell
Right now I’m reading Joyride by Stephen Crye and The Bleak Season by Lucas Mangum. I’m just about finished with both. I swear I finished another book since the last newsletter, but I can’t remember, nor do I have it written down anywhere.
In Closing
Yeah, the next newsletter will have a short story in it. Well, there will probably be a surprise newsletter when Infected Voices Comes out, but the next Sunday newsletter will certainly have that story. Probably “Getting Over Rachel Love”, which has a tie-in to my novel Terror of Rattlesnake Mountain.
Until next time . . .
