It’s Monday afternoon and I am exhausted. I took my son to see the Mudvayne show in Charlotte, North Carolina last night. That’s four and a half hours from me. And I drove back home after the show, got in a 3:30, fell asleep at maybe four, and woke up at eight to go to work.
The show was fun. Outside of Gwar, I’d never listened to any of the bands that played. It was the first show I’ve been to in an open-air pavilion that occurred during a lightning storm. In fact, Mudvayne had to cut it short by fifteen minutes due to the weather, which really bummed out my son. It took some talking on the ride home to cheer him up. I mean, we saw an hour and fifteen minutes of Mudvayne, so that was cool, but they were supposed to play his two favorite songs at the end and didn’t get to them. The whole time they played the sky was aglow with lightning. We couldn’t hear the thunder while they played, but in between songs the sky rumbled. It was surreal.
The day before the show we traveled about two hours west and saw this cool old graveyard with tent graves. They date back to the early 1800s. Apparently this type of grave was to deter animals from getting to the bodies. I’m assuming they weren’t buried in coffins, but I really don’t know. The ground beneath each grave is sunken, which indicates that perhaps after the bodies decomposed the ground sunk a bit? Again, this is just speculation. It was pretty cool to see.

Here’s the cover for my next book. Well, it might be my next book. It won’t release for another month at least. I might have something short and nasty coming out just to whet the appetites of readers who like their horror on the hardcore side of things.
There is an interesting collaboration in the works. It’s all very new, as in just yesterday I was approached about the project. We’re just starting to hash out the details, but it looks like a pretty cool opportunity. This is not a project with my regular collaborator Jack Bantry. It’s someone from a different country . . .

“You think you know this story, but trust me: you are not prepared for Jay Bower's gritty, vivid story of the lust for fame... and the deal that one man is willing to make in order to make all of his dreams come true. One of the best takes on this trope that I've ever read.”

Recent Reads from Hell
I’m currently reading Maggots Screaming! by Max Booth III and The Magic Wagon by Joe Lansdale. Enjoying both. I finished Long Lost by David Morell, which is a suspense thriller. I’m typically all horror with a little sci-fi or maybe mystery mixed in. That’s what I enjoy. But I’d like to read more thrillers, and this was a good one. Maybe a little bit paint by the numbers, but I enjoyed it. I’ve also read Morell’s Creepers. which I liked a lot. I have a collection of his short fiction that I need to get to.
Parting Words
It was a short one this time ‘round. That’s because I’m fucking exhausted. I still have two proof copies of Infected Voices. If you want one, let me know in a comment and the book is yours.
Until next time . . .
